Who is this facility a good fit for?

  • Best fit if: Adults seeking substance use and co-occurring mental health treatment; need withdrawal management (detox) and 24/7 residential care; looking for a private environment with luxurious amenities; have private insurance.

  • Not a fit if: Those who need acute hospital-level care for medical or psychiatric reasons; not interested in intensive daily group therapy; want self-directed care; have Medicaid, or are uninsured and unable to self pay.

What to expect

Developing your care plan

  • First three days: During this beginning period, focus is on medical stabilization. Blood work, nutrition, and medical vitals are monitored to make sure that clients are healing safely in the withdrawal management phase.
  • Core treatment team: Each person is assigned a therapist and a case manager to work with and supervise their stay. Clients have a say in the details of how their care plans are created and unfold.
  • Reassessment: The team meets every morning to discuss clients — who might have had a tough night, who isn’t eating, and who needs an intervention to adapt their care plan.
  • Balancing outside responsibilities: Boca works with people on external obligations. If a client needs 30 minutes to check work emails or attend an online class, they can coordinate with case managers to get specific requests approved.

“This is not like going to the supermarket, getting everything you need, and then you’re good for the next week. This is a foundational piece... we are the tool that we use to deliver this work.” — Dr. Alison Tarlow, Psy.D, Chief Clinical Officer

Who you will meet with

  • Licensed therapist: A primary therapist is assigned to each client. They foster deep clinical work, run individual therapy, and correspond with family members when the client desires.
  • Case manager: The person who handles the “non-clinical” work — FMLA paperwork, legal matters, banking, housing, and more.
  • 24/7 medical team: Doctors and nurses work together to manage medications and take care of clients’ physical and mental health needs..
  • Alumni and client care coordinators: These dedicated staff members are there to stay connected with people after they leave treatment.

“You have this personalized relationship with your caseload therapist who you really get to know, and they get to know you. In addition to having groups with that therapist, you're also having groups with the other therapists and group facilitators — so you're getting a nice, well-rounded experience, while also working hand in hand with a case manager.” — Dr. Alison Tarlow, Psy.D, Chief Clinical Officer

Typical schedule

  • Mornings: Wake-up is between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Those who take medications receive their doses. Afterwards, everyone eats breakfast.
  • All-day intensive focus: Active programming runs from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm and includes frequent groups and daily individual therapy. More intensive therapeutic sessions occur twice per week.
  • Traditional and holistic approaches: To complement evidence-based therapy such as CBT and DBT, activities include yoga, mindfulness, art, and music therapy.
  • Downtime: After therapy hours, clients can relax, spend time with peers, or watch TV in their rooms.
  • Evening 12-step groups: To help close out the day, 12-step (AA/NA) speakers and community groups often host meetings at the center to connect with clients and provide ongoing support.

Living experiences and amenities

  • Private bedrooms: Clients stay in private rooms, giving them quiet personal space to reflect.
  • Fitness: An on-site gym gives clients a place to work out and relieve stress through physical activity.
  • Professional haircuts: A barber visits the facility regularly to give clients haircuts in a dedicated salon room.
  • Chef-made meals: An in-house executive chef prepares daily meals. These can be made to accommodate medical dietary restrictions.
  • Movie theater: People can get together to watch evening films in the movie theater room.

Aftercare

  • Full continuum of care: Withdrawal management, residential care, and outpatient programs are all held on-site. This allows clients to move between care levels smoothly depending on their progress and needs.
  • Local support: If someone needs to return home right away, staff can identify local providers in their zip code.
  • Alumni program: The facility hosts weekly Zoom alumni groups and maintains private social media pages where former clients can stay connected and support one another.

Medical Leadership Interview

Interview conducted with Boca Recovery Center Chief Clinical Officer on February 17, 2026 by Start Your Recovery Director of Content, Molly McSweyn.

We interviewed Dr. Alison Tarlow, Psy.D, Chief Clinical Officer at Boca Recovery Center, to better understand how care is structured and who the program is a best fit for. Dr. Tarlow was direct and clear about the compassionate nature of the program, emphasizing that care is not a one-size-fits-all approach.

“The opposite of addiction is connection. We are building a bridge between the person you were and the person you are becoming.” — Dr. Alison Tarlow, Psy.D, Chief Clinical Officer

Dr. Tarlow was transparent about the program’s strong clinical oversight, focus on aftercare planning, and the importance of interpersonal connections during care.
