Who is this facility a good fit for?

  • Not a fit if: Those who need acute, hospital-level medical or psychiatric treatment; require detox or 24/7 residential care; are experiencing significant disorientation; not willing to participate in clinical therapy; using Medicaid or are uninsured and unable to self-pay.

What to expect

Typical schedule

  • Evidence-based therapies: Proven therapeutic approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and trauma-informed eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).
  • Family involvement: Parents are closely involved from the start of treatment. Clinicians lead loved ones in attachment-based family therapy (ABFT), an approach designed to help mend parent-child relationships.
  • PHP: This program involves 6-7 hours of daily treatment Monday-Friday. Days typically consist of clinical work such as process groups, life skills, and psychoeducation, along with up to four hours of academic instruction coordinated with teens’ home schools.
  • IOP: Teens can attend IOP in the afternoons or evenings, allowing them to keep up with their regular school schedule. The IOP is held 3-5 days per week for about three hours per day. Sessions include group therapy, mindfulness, and skills development.
  • Creative and experiential activities: Outside of clinical sessions, teens can do yoga, create artwork, and go on group excursions such as paddleboarding.

Developing your care plan

  • Initial assessments: Before the program starts, clinicians give teens medical and psychiatric background assessments. Teens and their families are closely involved in shaping treatment plans.
  • Care adapted to teens: Treatment is tailored to fit individual needs. These include help with depression, anxiety, mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma, substance use, and eating disorders.

“Our goal is to establish a sense of safety, comfort, and familiarity as quickly as possible, creating the foundation for clients to engage and benefit from treatment.” — Michael Roeske, PsyD, senior director of Newport Healthcare's Center for Research and Innovation

Who you will meet with

  • Psychiatrists: Board-certified psychiatrists work with teens one-on-one to manage mental health medications when needed and make sure teens are on the right track with their treatment.
  • Therapists: Licensed therapists facilitate individual, group, and family therapy sessions, as well as experiential and adventure activities.
  • Teachers: Accredited educators lead daily classroom time for teens enrolled in the PHP Therapeutic Day School.

Aftercare

  • Early discharge planning: To help families prepare for what comes next, discharge planning begins early in treatment. This can include referrals and resources families need for when teens return home.

“Discharge and aftercare planning start early, helping ensure seamless transitions and continuity of care after treatment.” — Michael Roeske, PsyD, senior director of Newport Healthcare's Center for Research and Innovation

Medical leadership interview

Interview conducted with Michael Roeske, PsyD, senior director of Newport Healthcare's Center for Research and Innovation, on July 20, 2026 by Start Your Recovery Director of Content, Molly McSweyn.

We interviewed Michael Roeske, PsyD, senior director of Newport Healthcare's Center for Research and Innovation, to better understand how care is structured and who the program is a best fit for. He was candid and detailed about the way mental health care plans are designed to fit individual needs and progress.

“We recognize that positive outcomes are not the result of a single treatment approach, a strong therapeutic bond, or a client’s belief that treatment will help. Rather, they come from consistently integrating the best available research evidence, clinical expertise, and careful consideration of each client’s unique characteristics, cultural needs, and preferences to guide care.” — Michael Roeske, PsyD, senior director of Newport Healthcare's Center for Research and Innovation

Michael was transparent about the program’s emphasis on individualized attention, family participation, and making sure clients feel safe and comfortable during treatment.

How we research treatment facilities

Across the site, our team has conducted over 1,000 pre-admissions calls to better understand the patient experience, interviewed facility clinical leaders, performed facility background checks, and compared our information against trusted public data sources.

Our research process begins with data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), accrediting bodies including The Joint Commission and CARF, government licensing agencies, and other trusted sources. From there, our team conducts significant original research, including:

- Pre-admissions calls: We speak with admissions staff to get a candid picture of patient experience.

- Background checks: We review complaints from past clients, media reports, actions taken by accrediting bodies, and positive recognition from notable organizations.

- Clinical interviews: We have in-depth conversations with clinical leadership, often lasting up to one hour, that give us a better understanding of clinical care.

- Data partnerships: We ingest and analyze exclusive data that provides information about in-network insurance status, cost, and more.

Research varies by facility. Each facility profile shows which research steps we completed and when each step was last performed. Learn more about our research process and background checks.

How we evaluate treatment facilities

These data help us develop a Trust Score for each facility—a simple letter grade that helps you assess how much confidence to place in a facility based on the information available to us. Trust Score considers accreditation, operating history, notable recognition, and concerns identified during our background check. Our Trust Score is an objective rating that is never influenced by advertiser payment. Learn more about our Trust Score methodology.

We cannot guarantee the quality of treatment at any facility. We cannot independently confirm the accuracy of every data point, and some information may become outdated or change over time. A Trust Score is a starting point, not a guarantee of treatment quality or outcomes. Please contact us if you would like to update or correct facility information.
