Gratitude Lodge - Los Angeles
Overview
Luxury residential and outpatient substance use and co-occurring mental health treatment center serving just six clients at a time. With a one-to-one client-to-staff ratio in a private, pet-friendly house, the program is a good fit for people who want focused personal attention and don’t want to leave their animal companions at home. Clients can start with medically supervised detox (withdrawal management) if needed. Residential care involves 43 hours of weekly group therapy, individual sessions, and activities like hiking and trips to the beach. The facility accepts private insurance, TRICARE, and self-pay.

Who is this facility a good fit for?
Best fit if: Adults who need withdrawal management (detox) and residential treatment in a small-group, home-like setting; need support for both substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns; value privacy and individualized attention; are open to a blend of evidence-based care and 12-step recovery work; want to bring their pets with them to treatment; have private insurance, TRICARE, or can self-pay.
Not a fit if: People who want outpatient-only care without a residential stay; prefer a larger peer community; do not want a highly structured program with frequent group therapy and close staff involvement; have Medicaid, Medicare, or are uninsured and unable to self-pay.

“Treatment plans are very unique and tailored to their specific needs, diagnoses, and symptoms.” — Sean O'Neill, LMFT, Clinical Director at a District Behavioral Health facility
Who you will meet with
- Medical team: During withdrawal management, nurses and other clinicians monitor clients 24/7 to make sure they are safe and as comfortable as possible. Medications for addiction treatment (MAT) can be prescribed when needed.
- Psychiatrists: Clients who have co-occurring mental health issues receive treatment from trained psychiatrists.
- Therapists and case managers: The treatment team includes therapists, licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs), case managers, and support staff.
- Behavioral health staff: Behavioral health technicians are available at all times to help clients with their needs and requests.
Typical schedule
- Frequent groups: Residential care follows a busy, highly structured weekly schedule with 43 hours of group therapy per week, plus one to two individual therapy sessions and one to two case management sessions.
- Structured days: A typical day begins with Daily Reflections from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by morning groups, lunch, afternoon therapy groups, recovery homework, dinner, leisure time, a Steps to Sobriety session, an evening reflection group, and lights out at 11:00 p.m.
- Recovery topics: A sampling of groups includes creative reflection, inner healing, self-reflection, recovery skills, acceptance, emotional wellness, relapse prevention, living in recovery, and other practical recovery themes. Weekend programming includes team building, and specialized groups like Keys to Recovery, Waves of Wellness, Pillars of Recovery, and Serenity Steps.
- Family visits: After the first week of treatment is complete, family members can come visit if the client wants them to. Visits have to be arranged in advance with case management.
Living experiences and amenities
- Comfortable home environment: Clients stay in a warm, welcoming residential environment with shared rooms and cozy lounges.
- Fun activities: Outdoor recovery activities include beach walks, hikes, and other off-site group wellness activities.
- Meals: Chefs prepare meals for clients. This allows for greater focus on recovery, without having to worry about cooking.
- Pet-friendly house: Depending on the pet, animal companions may join clients in residential treatment. This can do wonders for comfort and emotional support.
