Who is this facility a good fit for?

  • Best fit if: Adults needing 24-hour medical withdrawal or residential substance use treatment who want to transition into lower levels of care; wanting to come back to treatment after returning to substance use; looking for support for addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions; entering treatment for the first time; needing to meet work or school obligations while in treatment; needing practical case management alongside clinical care; military members, veterans, or first responders seeking treatment with peers.

  • Not a fit if: Adults seeking a small, boutique experience; preferring a program not rooted in 12-Step programming.

What to expect

Developing your care plan

  • Admission process: Substance use, physical health, and current circumstances are reviewed during an initial phone call to help staff identify the appropriate pathway and level of care. Insurance benefits and potential out-of-pocket costs are also reviewed at this time. Same-day admission and transportation assistance may be available.
  • Three pathways: There are three treatment pathways available: Foundations of Recovery, for people beginning treatment for the first time; Fresh Start, for people returning to treatment after returning to substance use; and Balance, for clients seeking support for substance use and co-occurring mental health needs.
  • Various approaches to treatment: Treatment can include individual and daily group programming, psychiatric support, medical withdrawal management, and medications for addiction treatment (MAT) when clinically appropriate.
  • RESCU: RESCU (Resilience, Empowerment, Safety, and Care for our Uniformed Heroes) programming is designed for active-duty military members, veterans, first responders, and their families. It focuses on the pressures and stressors that come with these demanding roles, using treatment approaches such as accelerated resolution therapy (ART). Clients in this program stay in a separate unit with other service members and may participate in service-informed routines that include muster, reveille, physical training, and flag ceremonies.

Who you will meet with

  • Individual therapists: Clients meet with therapists for one-on-one therapy for support with substance use, mental health conditions, relapse prevention, and recovery skills.
  • Group therapy technicians: Lead structured group programming that makes up a significant part of daily treatment in the residential and RESCU programs as well as during outpatient care.
  • Psychiatric providers: Offer support for clients who have mental health symptoms alongside substance use challenges.
  • Medical and nursing staff: The medical team offers monitoring and support during withdrawal management and may offer support for clients receiving MAT.
  • Case managers: Each client works with a dedicated case manager who begins planning for discharge on day one. Case managers connect clients with outside care and resources to support ongoing recovery and coordinate family, insurance, and clinical needs.
  • RESCU clinicians: These specially trained clinicians provide trauma-informed treatment tailored to the experiences of military members and first responders.

Typical schedule

  • A structured and purposeful schedule: In residential treatment, the daily schedule may include group programming, individual therapy, psychiatric consultations, and medication management as appropriate, as well as time for recreation and relaxation.
  • WorkFlex: Clients in residential treatment may be able to participate in remote work or schooling for up to 3 hours a day in a quiet space with Wi-Fi access.
  • Partial hospitalization program: The PHP offers in-person and hybrid formats. Clients meet 5 days a week for 5 to 6 hours of programming per day.
  • Intensive outpatient program: The IOP meets for 3 hours per session, 3 days a week. It’s available in person, virtually, or in a hybrid format.
  • Virtual intensive outpatient program: Group therapy and individual counseling are also available for clients discharging from medical withdrawal or residential programs or those just beginning sobriety. Clients attend 3 to 4 sessions a week, with each session lasting a few hours.

Living experiences and amenities

  • A wooded campus: The facility sits on a 560-acre waterfront estate along the Sassafras River and offers wooded walking trails and extensive outdoor space. Clients can spend downtime fishing off the pier, at the putting green, in the batting cages, or on the tennis and basketball courts.
  • Shared spaces and recreation: Clients typically stay in semi-private rooms and share common community and activity spaces, such as lounges with fireplaces and a fitness center.
  • Family support: Support is available for families as well, including in-person and virtual support groups, educational webinars, and guided family meetings. The goal is to help families learn more about addiction and recovery, communication, boundaries, and expectations.

Aftercare

  • Case management support: Case managers can help clients with letters to their employers, court dates, insurance paperwork, and arranging follow-up care, reducing barriers that may interfere with treatment or life after discharge.
  • Step-down programs: Clients can transition from withdrawal management to residential care and step down to various outpatient programs within the same facility.
  • Alumni support: An alumni program offers opportunities for continued peer connection with ongoing recovery meetings and sober social events, like picnics and movie outings. Some events welcome family and friends.

How we research treatment facilities

Across the site, our team has conducted over 1,000 pre-admissions calls to better understand the patient experience, interviewed facility clinical leaders, performed facility background checks, and compared our information against trusted public data sources.

Our research process begins with data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), accrediting bodies including The Joint Commission and CARF, government licensing agencies, and other trusted sources. From there, our team conducts significant original research, including:

- Pre-admissions calls: We speak with admissions staff to get a candid picture of patient experience.

- Background checks: We review complaints from past clients, media reports, actions taken by accrediting bodies, and positive recognition from notable organizations.

- Clinical interviews: We have in-depth conversations with clinical leadership, often lasting up to one hour, that give us a better understanding of clinical care.

- Data partnerships: We ingest and analyze exclusive data that provides information about in-network insurance status, cost, and more.

Research varies by facility. Each facility profile shows which research steps we completed and when each step was last performed. Learn more about our research process and background checks.

How we evaluate treatment facilities

These data help us develop a Trust Score for each facility—a simple letter grade that helps you assess how much confidence to place in a facility based on the information available to us. Trust Score considers accreditation, operating history, notable recognition, and concerns identified during our background check. Our Trust Score is an objective rating that is never influenced by advertiser payment. Learn more about our Trust Score methodology.

Important disclaimer

We cannot guarantee the quality of treatment at any facility. We cannot independently confirm the accuracy of every data point, and some information may become outdated or change over time. A Trust Score is a starting point, not a guarantee of treatment quality or outcomes. Please contact us if you would like to update or correct facility information.
