Soberman’s Estate
Overview
Luxury, men-only residential substance use and mental health care for professionals and executives on a private desert estate. With an average census of only seven men, clinicians can provide focused attention to individual needs, including three to five one-on-one therapy sessions every week. Men stay in private rooms, eat meals prepared by an executive chef, and can use their personal phones and laptops during their stay. Equine therapy is offered, and clients can sometimes bring their dogs with them to treatment. Soberman’s Estate is one of the only men-only programs in the area and aims to help men enjoy life without substances. This facility accepts private insurance and self-pay.

What to expect
Living experiences and amenities
- Private rooms and luxury accommodations: Treatment takes place on a five-acre estate with a small residential community of no more than 10 men and a five-to-one staff-to-client ratio. Clients stay in private rooms for comfortable and peaceful recovery.
- Laptops and cell phones allowed: There are no restrictions on personal smartphones, laptops, and other electronic devices.
- Peaceful outdoor spaces: The property has a labyrinth, zen garden, outdoor swimming pool, and a waterfall with a meditation grotto behind it.
- Recreation: During downtime, men can enjoy a putting green, a basketball court, and games such as ping-pong.
- Equine therapy and animal interactions: The estate has an on-site stable where clients can participate in equine-assisted therapy. There is also a farm with chickens and turtles. Clients can sometimes bring their dogs with them to treatment on a case-by-case basis.
- Visitation: Family visits can be prearranged with the care team.
“Recovery at Soberman’s Estate is a gift, not a punishment.” — Mitchell T. Prager, Founder and CEO, Soberman’s Estate
Typical schedule
- Client-centered programming: Schedules can vary significantly based on individual treatment plans. For example, men may participate in sunrise gratitude reflections, morning process groups, afternoon one-on-one therapy and meetings with a doctor and dietician, evening recovery meetings, and weekend art therapy or fitness.
- Chef-prepared meals: A dietician designs the menu, and meals are prepared by executive chefs.
- Fitness and wellness: A full gym is located on-site. A fitness coach comes into the facility to provide personal training services. Biweekly massage and acupuncture sessions are also offered.
- Time for outside responsibilities: Arrangements can be made for professionals to keep up with their work during residential care. Therapy sessions can be scheduled around meetings and other responsibilities as needed.
- Evidence-based therapies: Proven clinical methods include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), accelerated resolution therapy, trauma counseling, and relapse prevention.
Developing your care plan
- Detailed assessments: When treatment begins, clients complete thorough assessments so they can be placed in the right level of care, and so needs can be better understood. Care staff conduct medical, psychiatric, and substance use assessments so they can provide recommendations for each individual.
- Personalized recovery: Each treatment plan is unique and adapted to men's specific needs and goals. Assessment results help clinicians to customize these plans with client input. These plans are reviewed within 72 hours by leadership, then reassessed weekly so adjustments can be made as treatment progresses.
“We teach men how to enjoy their lives without alcohol or other substances or addictive behaviors. We start this continuum of care plan on day one and work on it daily.” — Mitchell T. Prager, Founder and CEO, Soberman’s Estate
Who you will meet with
- Master’s-level therapists: Work with clients in at least three one-on-one therapy sessions every week. This can be increased to five sessions per week if needed. Therapists also lead group sessions throughout the day.
- Doctors and nurses: Provide medical attention during residential care. Registered nurses are available on-site 24/7. Medications for addiction treatment (MAT) can be prescribed when appropriate.
- Psychiatrists: There to help men who are facing mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, burnout, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
- Support staff: Includes behavioral health technicians (BHTs) who attend to everyday needs and concerns.
- Case managers: Help clients with practical needs such as FMLA paperwork and care transitions.
Aftercare
- Referrals: Men leave treatment with an individualized discharge plan, which can include referrals to outpatient providers, therapists, mental health specialists, and doctors.
- Lifetime alumni support: When men graduate from the program, they become part of a lifetime alumni fellowship. Some of the benefits are social gatherings, virtual meetings, newsletters, and long-term support for both clients and their families.
