Who is this facility a good fit for?
Best fit if: Adults seeking comfort-focused residential treatment for substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions; benefit from structure, community, and a nature-focused recovery environment; want individualized treatment; are interested in experiential and wellness-focused programming alongside evidence-based therapy; are comfortable with community living and peer connection during treatment; value family involvement and phone access after detox during treatment; may need longer-term residential support beyond a standard 30-day stay; have private insurance, TRICARE, or can self-pay.
Not a fit if: Clients seeking outpatient-only treatment; require an urban or off-campus environment; prefer a strictly clinical or hospital-style setting; want guaranteed private rooms; are uncomfortable with group participation or community oriented living; rely on Medicaid or state-funded insurance coverage.
What to Expect
Developing your care plan
- Initial assessment and financial coordination: The admissions process begins with a brief assessment that reviews a client's substance use history, mental health symptoms, clinical needs, and fit for the treatment program. Staff also help families explore insurance coverage options, possible payment plans, and potential scholarship opportunities when available to get individuals treatment quickly when beds are available.
- Development of treatment plans: Clients do not enter a rigid or identical track of treatment. Instead, care plans are individually developed for medical and therapeutic approaches. Early treatment exposure to multiple therapeutic approaches allows staff to evaluate communication styles, emotional responsiveness, and learning preferences. This helps direct treatment goals based on what resonates most. Care can include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, trauma-focused support, group therapy, Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) and one-on-one counseling. Adjustments are made throughout treatment based on progress and clinical needs.
Who you will meet with
- Medical and psychiatric staff: Clients work directly with registered nurses, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and other medical staff during detoxification and residential treatment. Staff provide medication management, psychiatric evaluation and care, withdrawal monitoring, and ongoing mental health stabilization.
- Therapists and treatment specialists: Masters-level therapists, group facilitators, and medications for addiction treatment (MAT) coordinators guide individually developed treatment plans using personalized, evidence based therapeutic support.
- Case managers and family support: Clients may also work with case managers, aftercare coordinators, and family support staff who assist with discharge planning, continuing care for long-term recovery support, and family communication throughout their treatment at the facility.
Typical schedule
- Structured therapy and treatment programming: A structured approach is taken for both therapeutic and program development for all aspects of client care. Because of this, a typical day at this facility can include specific time frames for individual and group therapy sessions, education about relapse prevention, mental health support, and medical management about an individual’s substance use disorder. Days are structured to promote client engagement while promoting balance between clinical services, downtime, and support from peers.
- Wellness, recreation, and community activities: In addition to structured treatment environments, clients can participate in wellness, recreational, and community-based programs such as yoga, fitness-based programs, outdoor recreational opportunities, gardening and horticultural programs, recreational therapy, and recreational programs like movies and game nights.
Living experiences and amenities
- Residential living environment: Clients reside in comfort-focused, gender-separated cottages on a 42-acre wooded campus aimed at feeling much more like a community rather than a traditional hospital. Bedrooms are generally shared, but private rooms may be available if deemed clinically necessary or are requested by the client. A key goal is to foster a sense of connection among peers to reduce feelings of isolation during the earliest stages of recovery.
- Campus amenities and community spaces: The facility has many amenities and communal spaces that include walking trails through wooded areas, recreation and fitness areas, an Ohio State-supported horticulture and farm-to-table program, individual and shared lounges, television viewing areas, and other communal spaces throughout the facility. All aspects of daily life are intended to promote physical activity, routines, socialization, and positive behaviors while in recovery.
Aftercare
- Discharge planning and continued support: Prior to release from residential treatment, clients can collaborate with their treatment team, including an aftercare coordinator, to develop a continuing care plan, which may include continued therapy referrals, development of a relapse prevention plan, support groups, referrals to community-based services and resources, and other potential avenues for continued support in recovery after treatment.
- Long-term recovery and community connection: The facility offers continued recovery support through its alumni program, which includes aftercare and alumni coordinators who help clients stay connected after treatment. Continued communication, recovery-focused events, and peer support opportunities are available to help provide structure, accountability, and continued connection with staff and the recovery community.
