LifeHouse Carlsbad
Overview
Addiction treatment program that uses a peer-supported, client-directed approach. Withdrawal management (detox) and residential treatment are offered. Clients are assigned an individual counselor and peer support case manager and work collaboratively with clinical staff to set treatment goals. Building connections to community recovery meetings is encouraged to establish support clients can continue using after leaving residential care. The organization also offers long-term sober living opportunities. Medicaid and most commercial insurance are accepted for residential care, and income-based sliding-scale fees are available. Who is this facility a good fit for?
- Best fit if: Adults seeking support for substance use with or without co-occurring mental health concerns; needing on-site withdrawal management; looking for a program that emphasizes peer support; needing help rebuilding everyday stability.
- Not a fit if: Adults wishing to work remotely or have access to personal devices during treatment; seeking luxury accommodations or an executive-style program.
What to expect
Developing your care plan
- Setting treatment goals: Clients work with clinical staff to set treatment goals, taking into account their substance use history, mental health needs, and future priorities.
- Initial assessments: Initial assessments help clinicians determine how often clients should meet with their counselors, particularly if they are also experiencing depression or anxiety.
- A collaborative approach: Clients work directly with assigned counselors and peer support case managers to set up treatment plans. The broader treatment team meets both with clients and independently to review progress and adjust services as needed.
Who you will meet with
- Physician or medical clinician: These providers meet with clients during admission to evaluate their current medications and determine whether or not medications should be discontinued.
- Nursing staff: Nurses are available around the clock during withdrawal management. In the residential program, nurses oversee medication administration and respond to other medical needs.
- Assigned individual counselor: Clients have an assigned individual counselor who meets with residents weekly. Additional appointments can be requested as needed.
- Peer support case manager: Clients meet with peer case managers every week to talk about personal goals, coordinate services, and prepare for life after residential treatment.
- Residential treatment assistants: Assistants monitor interactions, watch for changes in behavior, and offer support to clients during daily programming.
Typical schedule
- Days structured around counseling: Daily schedules vary by client. Generally, days are structured around individual counseling sessions, regular support meetings, and staff-led groups. Clients in withdrawal management can also attend daily peer-led groups.
Living experiences and amenities
- Practical living spaces: Clients have access to laundry facilities and an on-campus gym. Electronic devices are not permitted, but residents can bring paper, envelopes, and stamps to write letters.
- Off-site activities and recreation: Clients in the residential program can go to off-campus recovery meetings, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings. Transportation to and from meetings is provided. Recreational activities are also available, including walks by the Pecos River, board games, and arts and crafts.
Aftercare
- Preparation for continuing care: Peer support case managers help clients prepare for ongoing care throughout their stay. Case managers arrange outpatient appointments, IOPs, and ongoing counseling as needed.
- Lifehouse sober living: The organization also offers a sober living program. It requires a minimum of a 6-month commitment. Homes are overseen by house managers who also act as peer support workers. While in sober living, clients continue individual and group peer support meetings. They also practice skills for independent living, such as budgeting, preparing meals, and caring for the home.

Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities

For addiction treatment, CARF uses standards developed with the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), so this accreditation shows the program follows trusted, evidence-based guidelines for treating substance use.

View all facilities in FloridaHow we research treatment facilities
Across the site, our team has conducted over 1,000 pre-admissions calls to better understand the patient experience, interviewed facility clinical leaders, performed facility background checks, and compared our information against trusted public data sources.
Our research process begins with data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), accrediting bodies including The Joint Commission and CARF, government licensing agencies, and other trusted sources. From there, our team conducts significant original research, including:
- Pre-admissions calls: We speak with admissions staff to get a candid picture of patient experience.
- Background checks: We review complaints from past clients, media reports, actions taken by accrediting bodies, and positive recognition from notable organizations.
- Clinical interviews: We have in-depth conversations with clinical leadership, often lasting up to one hour, that give us a better understanding of clinical care.
- Data partnerships: We ingest and analyze exclusive data that provides information about in-network insurance status, cost, and more.
Research varies by facility. Each facility profile shows which research steps we completed and when each step was last performed. Learn more about our research process and background checks.
How we evaluate treatment facilities
These data help us develop a Trust Score for each facility—a simple letter grade that helps you assess how much confidence to place in a facility based on the information available to us. Trust Score considers accreditation, operating history, notable recognition, and concerns identified during our background check. Our Trust Score is an objective rating that is never influenced by advertiser payment. Learn more about our Trust Score methodology.

A Trust Score is a starting point, not a guarantee of treatment quality or outcomes. Please contact us if you would like to update or correct facility information.
