Who is this facility a good fit for?

  • Best fit if: Adults seeking short- or long-term structured residential treatment; needing support for substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions; facing employment, educational, or housing challenges; seeking support while navigating the criminal justice system.
  • Not a fit if: Adults requiring on-site withdrawal management (detox); seeking a small residential program; needing regular access to personal electronic devices; seeking luxury accommodations.

What to expect

Developing your care plan

  • Initial phone screening: The first step is calling the dedicated referral line for a brief screening and to arrange an admission date. Admission wait times may be short.
  • Comprehensive assessment: Upon admission, clients receive assessments covering their history and current needs. This assessment guides care plan development.
  • Ongoing reassessments: Counselors continue monitoring and evaluating clients during treatment.

Who you will meet with

  • Counselors and therapists: Certified addiction counselors and therapists lead treatment planning, lead group and individual sessions, and monitor client progress.
  • Mental health support personnel: Dedicated staff offer ongoing around-the-clock support.
  • Case managers: Case managers help clients plan outpatient care and connect them with recovery services to support recovery after leaving residential treatment.
  • Medical team: Physicians and nurses are actively involved in client care.

Typical schedule

  • Structured daily programming: Clients attend daily groups, practical skill development, and activities that help build healthier routines. These can include anger management, relapse prevention, parenting classes, and social skills development. Individual therapy sessions typically occur weekly.
  • Community and experiential activities: Clients can attend Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), and Food Anonymous (FA) meetings on- or off-site. Community service opportunities, such as urban farming, are available. Traditional therapy is also complemented by drama therapy, work therapy, and spiritual development activities.
  • Preparing for independent living: Practical support helps clients prepare for life after treatment. This includes employment and housing assistance and GED programming, as well as computer skills and money management. Justice-system re-entry support is also a focus of the program.
  • Outpatient programming: Outpatient services, including medication review, psychiatric evaluation, individual counseling, and group therapy, are available.

Living experiences and amenities

  • Gender-specific residential locations: The program offers separate housing for men and women. Both offer a safe, supportive, home-like environment with shared meals and group activities.
  • A focus on recovery: Personal phones and other devices are not allowed during treatment. There's also a waiting period after entering the program for family visits. The goal is to prevent distractions and keep clients focused on recovery, particularly early in treatment.

Aftercare

  • Ongoing support: The facility offers outpatient services and recovery housing that clients can access after leaving the residential program.

Pre-admissions experience

We conducted a series of pre-admissions calls, the most recent on October 14, 2026, to evaluate response time, transparency, and patient experience.

We spoke with a representative from Elmhurst Home, and while they were casual and friendly, they provided limited information and vague details. That said, they were transparent about what they didn’t know and did not use aggressive sales techniques.

Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities

CARF reviews rehab programs to make sure they provide respectful, effective, and personalized care. For addiction treatment, CARF uses standards developed with the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), so this accreditation shows the program follows trusted, evidence-based guidelines for treating substance use.

How we research treatment facilities

Across the site, our team has conducted over 1,000 pre-admissions calls to better understand the patient experience, interviewed facility clinical leaders, performed facility background checks, and compared our information against trusted public data sources.

Our research process begins with data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), accrediting bodies including The Joint Commission and CARF, government licensing agencies, and other trusted sources. From there, our team conducts significant original research, including:

- Pre-admissions calls: We speak with admissions staff to get a candid picture of patient experience.

- Background checks: We review complaints from past clients, media reports, actions taken by accrediting bodies, and positive recognition from notable organizations.

- Clinical interviews: We have in-depth conversations with clinical leadership, often lasting up to one hour, that give us a better understanding of clinical care.

- Data partnerships: We ingest and analyze exclusive data that provides information about in-network insurance status, cost, and more.

Research varies by facility. Each facility profile shows which research steps we completed and when each step was last performed. Learn more about our research process and background checks.

How we evaluate treatment facilities

These data help us develop a Trust Score for each facility—a simple letter grade that helps you assess how much confidence to place in a facility based on the information available to us. Trust Score considers accreditation, operating history, notable recognition, and concerns identified during our background check. Our Trust Score is an objective rating that is never influenced by advertiser payment. Learn more about our Trust Score methodology.

A Trust Score is a starting point, not a guarantee of treatment quality or outcomes. Please contact us if you would like to update or correct facility information.
