12-Step foundation and peer support

The center offers round-the-clock clinical support in a supportive community environment. The program is built around the Twelve Steps. This includes focus on personal accountability, group participation, spirituality, and connections to long-term peer support. Peers often lead meetings, and 12-Step-based assignments are part of the program. The environment is structured and gives clients plenty of opportunities to share their recovery experiences with one another.

Structured therapeutic days

Residential days blend individual counseling and group therapy. On weekdays, clients wake up at 6 a.m. and participate in meditation and reflection. Mornings involve two hours of therapy, and afternoons include another two hours of therapy. In total, clients attend about 20 hours of group therapy and education sessions weekly. One hour of individual therapy is provided every week. In the afternoons and evenings, clients can socialize, attend Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings, complete recovery assignments, and exercise, depending on that day’s schedule. Recreational therapy is provided on weekends.

Treatment plans and clinical care

Each client’s care plan is developed by their assigned primary therapist. This plan is reassessed every two weeks and can be adjusted based on progress, challenges, and individual needs. Medical staff are on-site at all times to tend to health needs. Medications for addiction treatment (MAT) can be prescribed when appropriate to help ease cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Mental health medications may also be administered to clients with co-occurring psychiatric conditions. Intensive trauma services are provided to those who need them.

Practical aftercare

Before residential treatment ends, clients meet with a Certified Peer Support Specialist who can help them create an individualized aftercare plan. This can include specifics in areas such as relationships, social life, employment, and education. Once graduating from residential care, individuals can go to weekly Recovery Support Services groups. These groups are led by a peer support specialist and provide a place to discuss challenges, progress, and goals. Staff can connect clients to outpatient services for their next level of care.

Pre-admissions experience

We conducted a series of pre-admissions calls, the most recent on October 6, 2026, to evaluate response time, transparency, and patient experience.

When we reached out to Harbor Houses of Jackson, the admissions team was prompt and specific. They walked us through policies, residential schedules, and the clinical care team. The conversation felt informative and free of pressure.

How we research treatment facilities

Across the site, our team has conducted over 1,000 pre-admissions calls to better understand the patient experience, interviewed facility clinical leaders, performed facility background checks, and compared our information against trusted public data sources.

Our research process begins with data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), accrediting bodies including The Joint Commission and CARF, government licensing agencies, and other trusted sources. From there, our team conducts significant original research, including:

- Pre-admissions calls: We speak with admissions staff to get a candid picture of patient experience.

- Background checks: We review complaints from past clients, media reports, actions taken by accrediting bodies, and positive recognition from notable organizations.

- Clinical interviews: We have in-depth conversations with clinical leadership, often lasting up to one hour, that give us a better understanding of clinical care.

- Data partnerships: We ingest and analyze exclusive data that provides information about in-network insurance status, cost, and more.

Research varies by facility. Each facility profile shows which research steps we completed and when each step was last performed. Learn more about our research process and background checks.

How we evaluate treatment facilities

These data help us develop a Trust Score for each facility—a simple letter grade that helps you assess how much confidence to place in a facility based on the information available to us. Trust Score considers accreditation, operating history, notable recognition, and concerns identified during our background check. Our Trust Score is an objective rating that is never influenced by advertiser payment. Learn more about our Trust Score methodology.
