What to expect

Developing your care plan

• Comprehensive assessment: Clinicians use an initial assessment to determine the appropriate level of care for each client. Young adults are actively involved in identifying their own needs and developing their own treatment plans.
• Treatment for substance use and more: Treatment focuses on substance use as well as other mental health needs. Medication management, family relationships, and sober support are integrated into care. There's also a strong focus on education, vocation, physical health, and daily living skills to help clients prepare for life after residential treatment.
• A combination of approaches: Clients participate in individual, group, and family counseling along with specialized recovery and skills-based groups. Evidence-based approaches are used with other techniques, such as art therapy, therapeutic recreation, and mindfulness.

Who you will meet with

• Clinical staff: Counselors lead individual and group therapy sessions and specialized recovery and skills groups.
• Medical team: A full-time medical team includes physicians, registered nurses, and licensed practical nurses.
• Case managers: These professionals help plan treatment and may connect clients with outside support when needed.
• Teachers: Certified New York State teachers provide direct education, GED preparation, and related support.
• Other therapeutic staff: Other trained therapeutic staff provide art therapy and therapeutic recreation.

Typical schedule

• Clinical treatment, routines, and skill building: Clients move between various groups during the day, including counseling and life-skills activities. Art therapy is also integrated into treatment as a nonverbal way for clients to work through their experiences.
• Recreation: Recreation time focuses on using physical education, exercise, and group activities as a way to work on sportsmanship and communication skills.
• Education: Young adults can also continue or resume schooling during treatment. They participate in educational and vocational programming, including GED preparation, to work toward school and employment goals.

Living experiences and amenities

• A safe, structured treatment environment: The 15-bed residential program supports young adults working toward developmental goals while receiving substance use treatment with a small group of peers.
• Movement and recreation: Physical education, exercise, and group activities encourage healthy habits while supporting sportsmanship and team building.
• Family connections: Families stay connected to young adults during treatment. Joint family therapy can help reopen communication and help young people and their families establish healthier relationships. Family counseling is available to address how addiction has affected the home environment and to help families make changes to support recovery.

Aftercare

• Reintegration: Young adults who have finished residential treatment but may face higher risks of relapse if they return home immediately may transition into the organization's reintegration support. This program provides case management in a substance-free community living environment with peer support and a focus on increasing independence and decision-making. Clients have household responsibilities, make more independent decisions, and can participate in school, vocational programming, outpatient treatment, and other community services. Drug screenings and breathalyzer testing are a part of the reintegration model.
