Five dedicated treatment paths

The center offers five specialized treatment tracks. The first is for trauma and PTSD, the second is for mental health conditions like depression and bipolar disorder, the third is for eating disorders, the fourth is for substance use, and the fifth is for sexual disorders like hyposexuality and hypersexuality. Keeping these recovery pathways distinct allows staff to deeply focus on specific needs and tailor care to what may be most effective for each client and their background.

Focus on healing from trauma

Addressing underlying trauma is woven into all treatment tracks, as this can contribute to mental health, substance use, eating disorders, sexual disorders, attachment wounds, and more. Clinicians offer eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based approach designed specifically for trauma healing work. Other therapies include dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), somatic therapies, exposure therapy, and cognitive reprocessing. Mindfulness practices are also used to help with relaxation, stress relief, self-reflection, and overall healing.

Step-down outpatient treatment

Clients often transition to outpatient programs after completing residential treatment in order to gradually move toward independence in their recovery journey. However, some people who do not need 24/7 inpatient support may start care directly in the outpatient level. The PHP runs five days per week for about six hours per day, giving clients structured treatment throughout the day and allowing them to return home or to sober living in the evenings and on weekends. The IOP is more flexible and involves shorter, three-hour sessions on fewer days of the week. This gives clients more flexibility for work, school, and family responsibilities. Transitional living options are available alongside outpatient care for clients who need them.

Alumni program

Harmony Place Monterey offers an alumni program that clients can participate in after graduating from outpatient care. This involves biweekly group meetings where peers can discuss challenges, accomplishments, maintaining accountability, and other aspects of recovery while receiving feedback and input. Clients can also attend a weekly mental health support group to work on coping skills, communication, and regulating emotions in a safe environment.
