Who is this facility a good fit for?
Best fit if: Adults seeking outpatient substance use treatment with a defined schedule; who may benefit from withdrawal management or MAT; looking for treatment that fits around home, work, or other responsibilities; seeking virtual treatment options; wanting a program with peer support.
Not a fit if: Adults looking for 24/7 residential treatment or housing; seeking an in-person evening IOP; who cannot commit to a fixed treatment schedule.
What to expect
Developing your care plan
- Intake process: Before starting treatment, clients complete a medical consultation to review their substance use history, goals, and treatment plan. Those entering the IOP also complete a separate assessment.
- Various levels of treatment: Treatment includes individual and group therapy, with the IOP centered heavily on group sessions. The facility also offers assessment and treatment for those with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. When clinically appropriate, clients can access outpatient withdrawal management and MAT.
Who you will meet with
- Medical team: A medical provider completes the initial consultation and oversees clients’ medical needs. Medical assistants also provide support during the health history and assessment process.
- Peer recovery coach: A peer recovery coach is assigned as a member of the care team. They provide ongoing recovery support and guidance, resource connection, and support between appointments.
- IOP coordinator: Clients in the IOP program work with the IOP coordinator for scheduling and progression through the program.
- Therapists: Individual and group therapy sessions are part of the broader treatment program.
Typical schedule
- Intensive outpatient program: The IOP is four days a week and lasts for six weeks. The morning program meets in-person or virtually from 9 a.m.-12 pm; the evening program is entirely virtual, from 6-9 p.m.
- Other available treatments: The facility holds about 40 virtual groups every week, including specialized groups focused on various professions, identities, or therapeutic approaches. For example, there are groups for healthcare professionals, veterans, men, and women, as well as groups focused on music and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
Living experiences and amenities
- Treatment environment: The facility offers outpatient programming with medication support. In-person groups and individual therapy sessions are held on site during the day. Virtual programming is available during the day and evening.
- Family involvement: A family program provides educational and therapeutic options for family and friends, including virtual programming. Loved ones can learn more about addiction and how they can support someone in recovery.
Aftercare
- Ongoing support: Glen Allen provides ongoing outpatient support for people transitioning out of the IOP, including peer recovery coaching, individual therapy, group therapy, and outpatient medical care.
- Sustained Recovery Program: This program helps clients recognize warning signs, adjust their goals, and work on prevention strategies that can support long-term recovery. It focuses on maintaining accountability rather than focusing on a single event.
