Paramount Wellness Retreat
Overview
Upscale residential substance use treatment with on-site detox and a high staff-to-client ratio in a rural, forested environment. Evidence-based, trauma-informed therapies are delivered through both daily groups and regular one-on-one sessions. These are combined with holistic wellness approaches like yoga, reiki, guided meditation, music therapy, and biofeedback. Clients who play a musical instrument can request approval to bring it with them to treatment. Weekly family counseling sessions are offered for loved ones to be part of the healing process. Who is this facility a good fit for?
Best fit if: Adults who need 24/7 residential treatment for substance use, including those with co-occurring mental health conditions; need on-site withdrawal management (detox); prefer a rural, nature-immersed environment; want private room options and upscale accommodations; have private insurance, TRICARE, or can self-pay.
Not a fit if: Those who need acute, hospital-level treatment; looking for a city-based treatment setting; want an outpatient-only or self-directed care approach; want a solely non-12-Step program; not willing to participate in clinical therapy; are uninsured and unable to self-pay.
What to expect
Typical schedule
- Detox: When needed, treatment starts with medical withdrawal management. The medical team is there 24/7 to monitor symptoms, and medications for addiction treatment (MAT) can be prescribed to ease withdrawal symptoms and cravings.
- Clinical therapy and 12-Step support: In both individual and group sessions, therapists use approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), psychoeducation, trauma treatment, and anger management. Clients also attend 12-Step meetings and support groups.
- Family counseling: Sessions are offered weekly on Tuesdays for clients who want their loved ones to participate.
- Holistic and experiential methods: Wellness offerings include yoga, reiki, guided meditation, sound healing, biofeedback, hiking, and music therapy.
Developing your care plan
- Detailed assessments: Before clients arrive, they complete an initial assessment so staff can gather basic information about their needs and goals. This process takes 15-20 minutes. Once clients arrive, they are given a more extensive clinical assessment.
- Client collaboration: Clients are fully involved in shaping their own treatment plans. While these plans still have to align with core requirements, clients have a say in how the treatment process unfolds.
Who you will meet with
- Therapists: Each client is assigned a primary individual therapist. Group sessions are also led by therapists trained in evidence-based methods.
- Medical providers: On-site around the clock to provide medical care and manage medications.
- Case managers: Work with clients on practical needs such as discharge planning and filling out FMLA paperwork.
Living experiences and amenities
- Retreat-style environment: Clients stay on an upscale, forested retreat near the Connecticut River. Rooms are usually shared with one other person, but private rooms are available for an extra fee.
- Fitness and recreation: The campus includes a gym area for exercise, as well as plenty of outdoor space. Clients are given downtime to enjoy the natural setting.
- Visitation: There is no visitation during the withdrawal management phase and the first week of residential care. After that, clients can schedule visits with loved ones.
Aftercare
- Discharge planning: Discharge planning begins early in the treatment process so clients are ready for what comes next. Staff provide relapse prevention training and can connect clients with aftercare resources.
- Lifetime alumni program: An active alumni program offers long-term support for graduates. The alumni network hosts events and support groups and can connect clients with recovery coaching.
