Recovery Care Built for Young Women

Pegasus House is a nonprofit residential program for young women ages 18 to 25, with some younger residents accepted by waiver. It is designed for transitional-age youth and young adults who need substance use treatment alongside support for co-occurring mental health conditions. Rather than using a general adult model, the program focuses on the realities of early adulthood, including identity, relationships, education, and learning to live more independently. Its structured daily setting is built to reinforce recovery, accountability, and healthy routines among peers in a similar stage of life.

Developmentally Focused, Trauma-Informed Treatment

Treatment is organized around each resident’s developmental stage, personal history, and recovery needs. Pegasus House uses motivational interviewing and the Stages of Change model to help residents build momentum at a sustainable pace. The program also provides trauma-informed care with a gender-responsive and culturally aware framework that reflects factors such as language, race, ethnicity, and LGBTQ identity. Residents can also access medications for addiction treatment (MAT), including buprenorphine, methadone, and naltrexone, as part of ongoing recovery support.

Life Skills, Education, and Community Connection

The facility also focuses on helping residents function more confidently in daily life, not just complete treatment. Programming includes individual and group counseling on relapse prevention, communication, boundaries, anger management, stress reduction, wellness, and recovery maintenance. Residents also build practical skills tied to life after treatment, including daily living habits, healthier relationships, education support, and job readiness. Community outings, art therapy, volleyball, and basketball add opportunities for social connection and routine. Recovery coaching, employment support, and links to outside services help extend that support into the next stage of recovery.

Family Support and Planning for Long-Term Stability

Family involvement is part of treatment throughout a resident’s stay. Sessions can include parents, relatives, mentors, or other supportive adults identified by the resident, helping strengthen the support system around recovery. Aftercare planning starts at admission and continues through discharge, with attention to ongoing care, community resources, and realistic next steps.
