Residential substance use and mental health treatment for adults with on-site detox on a private, three-acre campus. Co-occurring mental health conditions are treated alongside substance use, and a separate residential program is offered for clients with primary psychiatric conditions. Clients are treated by a highly experienced team — most clinicians at the center have over 25 years of experience in behavioral health. Treatment is structured and includes daily process groups as well as weekly one-on-one and family therapy sessions. Step-down outpatient care is offered at a sister facility. Promises Atlanta accepts private insurance and self-pay.

Who is this facility a good fit for?

  • Best fit if: Adults looking for structured residential care for substance use, co-occurring conditions, or primary mental health; need on-site withdrawal management (detox); want a private, rural environment for recovery; have private insurance or are able to self-pay.

  • Not a fit if: Need acute, hospital-level treatment; looking for outpatient-only or self-directed care; prefer a city-based setting; not willing to participate in clinical therapy; have Medicaid or are uninsured and unable to self-pay.

What to expect

Developing your care plan

  • Intake and personalization: Before treatment begins, staff take an initial assessment over the phone. Once clients arrive, a personalized treatment plan is created around their substance use history, mental health needs, and goals.
  • Reassessment: Plans are reviewed on a regular basis so clinicians can make adjustments based on clients’ progress and any challenges they are facing.

Who you will meet with

  • Master’s-level clinicians: All clinicians and other staff are trained in a standardized, trauma-informed curriculum.
  • Therapists: Each client is assigned a primary therapist who leads weekly one-on-one sessions. Licensed counselors also lead group sessions.
  • Nurses: Nurses support clients during withdrawal management and tend to health needs throughout the program.
  • Psychiatrists: Meet with clients who have co-occurring or primary mental health conditions. They may prescribe mental health medication when needed.
  • Case managers: Assist clients with practical needs and help them plan for long-term recovery.

Typical schedule

  • Detox: When needed, treatment can start with medical withdrawal management. This stage is monitored 24/7 by nurses for safety and to keep clients as comfortable as possible. Medications for addiction treatment (MAT) can be prescribed to help ease symptoms and cravings.
  • Structured programming: Treatment is centered around group therapy, including process groups, psychoeducation, and skills-based groups. The curriculum emphasizes communication, resilience, and emotional regulation.
  • Trauma-informed, evidence-based therapies: Proven approaches used by clinicians include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing (MI). Mindfulness may also be incorporated into care.

Aftercare

  • Step-down outpatient care: After graduating from residential treatment, clients can transfer to the facility’s sister program, Promises ALANA, for outpatient programs. These include a partial hospitalization program (PHP), an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and regular outpatient sessions.
  • Discharge planning: Planning for discharge begins early in treatment. Each client leaves with an individual relapse prevention plan for their transition back home.
