Residential treatment program for children and teens

Oak Grove Center’s Murrieta campus provides residential care for youth ages 8–18. The campus has three dormitories and space for up to 76 clients. An on-site K–12 school helps children and teens get the care they need without putting their education on hold. Residential care combines educational and therapeutic approaches. Youth attend individual, group, and family therapy. Nursing services, medication monitoring, recreational therapy, and milieu therapy are also available.

Mental health, substance use, and complex behavioral needs can be addressed together

This program is for kids and teens with significant psychiatric and behavioral needs, with or without co-occurring substance use. Treatment can also address mental health challenges, such as trauma, grief and loss, self-injury, and eating disorders. Care plans take into account each client’s clinical status and developmental level and are developed with family input. Youth with substance use concerns receive support from certified drug and alcohol counselors working alongside licensed mental health therapists.

School and special education services are a part of daily treatment

The on-site academic program is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The school-like environment extends outside the classroom, with a library, gym, baseball field, and playground. Autism services are also available and may include speech therapy, occupational therapy, and behavioral intervention. Programming is overseen by a board-certified behavior analyst. When recommended, students may also integrate into other on-campus classes or transition to public school.

Older teens can practice independent living skills

Teens ages 14 and older can participate in the WorkAbility vocational education and job-placement program. They build practical skills by working on-campus jobs, such as maintenance, food service, or tutoring. Teens keep a work schedule and complete timesheets while learning about banking and money management, job searching, and resume preparation. When clinically appropriate, teens can progress to off-campus employment within the community.

Family, peer, and community connections

Family members are involved in treatment planning and can participate in family therapy and multi-family groups. The facility also offers parenting workshops. Substance use programming specifically addresses relapse triggers and warning signs while also helping youth build healthier relationships, friendships, and family connections. Youth also learn about 12-Step programs and other groups, including how to find meetings in their home communities.
