Who is this facility a good fit for?
Best fit if: Adults seeking treatment for psychiatric conditions, substance use needs, or both; needing withdrawal management before entering residential care; wanting a highly-structured, group-structured program; wanting experiential options alongside evidence-based clinical care; who can make their own medical decisions; families who can participate in care remotely.
Not a fit if: Adults seeking private bedrooms or a luxury or resort environment or extensive outdoor space; needing ongoing access to a cell phone or personal electronics; who are unable to make their own medical decisions; families needing regular in-person visits.
What to expect
Developing your care plan
- Initial assessment and first steps: The first step is an admission assessment completed by phone. After admission, clients meet with an assigned case manager and primary therapist. This meeting helps establish a baseline for developing the treatment plan. For clients who need withdrawal management, treatment may begin with detox before transitioning into residential care.
- Dynamic treatment plans: Care plans adapt to client needs and can change on a day-to-day basis. The client participates in these decisions and must be able to consent to changes to their own care.
- Various treatment approaches: Clients participate in weekly individual and family therapy sessions, processing and psychoeducational groups, and receive psychiatric care. Experiential activities are also integrated into care, including yoga, physical fitness, journaling, and walking. For example, therapists may sometimes conduct sessions while walking around outside rather than sitting in an office.
Who you will meet with
- Assigned case manager: Coordinates care across the program. Case managers help establish baselines, develop the initial care plan after admission, and help decide when changes are necessary.
- Licensed primary therapist: The primary therapist is the client’s main point of contact and helps establish the baseline and build the care plan. Clients meet with the primary therapist for one-on-one sessions at least once a week, depending on clinical need.
- Psychiatrist: Provides psychiatric support for mental health conditions and meets with clients as needed.
- Medical doctors: Meet with clients about any medical or nutrition needs they may experience during treatment.
- Nurse practitioner: An on-site nurse practitioner provides in-house supervision and care.
- Art therapist: Leads or support art therapy and other expressive therapeutic activities.
Typical schedule
- Morning: Clients wake up, have breakfast, and attend their first treatment block from 9-11:00 a.m.
- Afternoon: After lunch, clients attend a second treatment block from 1:30-2:30 p.m, followed by a break and a third treatment block from 3:30-5 or 5:30 p.m.
- Evening: After dinner, clients may attend an additional group in the evening. Daily schedules can change depending on clinical needs.
Living experiences and amenities
- An accessible, communal treatment environment: The facility has an 80-bed capacity. Twin beds are standard, and en-suite bathrooms are shared by two or three clients. ADA-accessible bathrooms with shower benches are available, as are larger beds for physical sizing or mobility considerations.
- Cafeteria meals: A large cafeteria is staffed by a head chef and two cooks who prepare all meals on site.
- Recreation: Clients have access to a large gym with exercise equipment and can play ping pong or cornhole in their downtime. TVs are available in public and shared areas, and there’s a small courtyard with a walking path for time outside.
- Limited access to tech: Personal cell phones and electronic devices are not allowed. Clients can use the landlines at the facility outside of group hours from approximately 5:30-10:00 p.m.
- Family contact: The program does not permit in-person visits. All family involvement takes place virtually.
Aftercare
- Support beyond residential treatment: Care extends beyond a single residential episode and includes multiple levels of treatment. These may include ongoing therapy, virtual services, local support groups, and the creation of routines intended to support recovery after returning home.
- Alumni support: An alumni program provides continued connection, recovery resources, peer relationships, encouragement, and accountability after treatment.
